LAST ENTRY :-(

AGE: 21

SEX:female

WHAT IS YOUR DEGREE SUBJECT: Philosophy and Religious Studies

DOES BEING BAD RELATE WELL TO THE OTHER MODULES YOU ARE DOING: I think it does with Philosophy because you are able to add your own opinion to different topics, but not so much with religious studies, only when we talked about being to religious.

HAVE YOU FOUND BEING BAD TOO DEMANDING, TOO EASY OR AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL: i have found it OK it hasn't been too easy of too hard but this module had definitely made me think.

DO YOU THINK THE LIST OF TOPICS COVERED ON THE MODULE WAS APPROPRIATE: I did not quiet understand why we did bad cinema or bandits and outlaws. I felt that different people have different thoughts about what is a bad film.

ARE THERE ANY TOPICS WHICH WERE NOT INCLUDED WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE INCLUDED: I would like to see a topic about modern problems like sex or homosexuality.

DO YOU THINK THE FORMAT FOR CLASSES HAS WORKED WELL: Yes the classes were good there was problems with how many people there was and about people talking and nothing was ever done about that problem and it effaced people in the class.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE MODULE TEAM: The team was great, they did a good job on lectures and handouts, power points and discussion topics.

DO YOU THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO HAVE HAD MORE:
SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS:
I think it would of been good if we got split into small groups to do more in depth discussions about the topics.

DISCUSSION AND DEBATE AMONG THE CLASS AS A WHOLE: I think it would of been hard to have more debates and large group discussions because it was such a large group.

INFORMATION AND TALK FROM LECTURES: I thought the amount of information we was given in lectures was good.

THE APPROACH TAKEN IN THE MODULE IS INTERDISCIPLINARY, DO YOU THINK THIS IS A USEFUL WAY OF APPROACHING THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE MODULE: I think it did work because people and myself was really interested by the topics we covered and they was we covered them was good.

DO YOU THINK THAT INTERDISCIPLINARY MODULES ARE A GOOD IDEA: Yes

DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE BENEFITED FROM THE INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TAKEN IN THE MODULE: I have benefited from the topics covered because i have learnt so much about the topics and how they can be interpreted.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE MORE MODULES THAT COVER THIS KIND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Yes i would i would like to see a module which covered modern day problems which we as students might have to deal with.

ARE YOU PLANNING TO TAKE THE FOLLOW UP MODULE PH2004 "IT SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED" AT LEVEL 2: Yes with out a doubt

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND "BEING BAD" TO A FRIEND: Yes, because i feel they can learn so many interesting topics from this module.

DO YOU THINK THAT THE BLOG WERE A GOOD IDEA: I thought that they were a good idea i think that more guidance should have been given but i have enjoyed doing them.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE OTHER ASSESSMENTS: They were good but either needed to be one big essay at least, or two different types of things in which we are able to choose from other than stories.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM THE MODULE: I have learnt that all different things what we not consider as bad other people could like smoking is considered a bad thing for you health but not a bad thing which makes you a bad person, i have also learnt that all people have different opinions on different things and we should not judge them because of it.

WHAT PARTS OF THE MODULE HAVE YOU FOUND MOST USEFUL AND WHY:
i have found doing the web blog very useful because it has made me think about the issues which we do on a weekly basis on a daily basis and it was a piece of work which was constant from the beginning of the module to the end.

WHAT PARTS DO YOU THINK WERE A WASTE OF TIME AND WHY: i thought that the bad cinema was a bit pointless because we all have our own opinions to what is a bad film and what films can influences us.

ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS YOU WISH TO MAKE REGARDING "BEING BAD":
i think that overall the module was good and i will def be doing to follow up module in year 2.

WHAT INFLUENCES US?

  • Many things we see or here in our favourite TV programmes or songs by our favorite band my influence us in the way we act or response to a problem. however can we really blame TV and MUSIC for our bad behaviour? should we know ourselves that an action is wrong and not do it even if we have saw it on the TV.

  • The biggest case that i can remember about TV influencing us, was the Jamie Buldger story which was in out local papers for weeks on end, two young boys committed a horrific crime and blamed their actions on a film they had saw the night before.

  • Should this excuse be accepted or should we know what is acceptable and what is wrong?

  • I think that children should be taught at a young age what is right and what is wrong because making excuses like we saw it on TV so it must be OK to do.

  • Another point which should be made is why are we aloud to watch such horrific things at such a young age should more be done to parents so cases like this do not happen again?

SMACKING A CHILD RIGHT/WRONG?

SMACKING!!!!!!!

Is smacking a child right or wrong to do? This question has many debates in today's world. some people think that it is not a bad thing to smack your child if they have done something wrong because it corrects them and they will learn from their mistakes and bad behaviour. However is it right if you smack your child fro doing something wrong and leave a mark? Or should smacking be totally wrong because it is classed as child abuse?

When i was younger i was a good child, however i did use to do wrong and my mom use to give me a smack around the back of the legs or on my bottom however i learnt my lesson because i never did that thing again. Again when my sister was born she was a good child, however she did wrong like most kids and my mom and dad use give her smack on the hand and she learn from her lesson. I think that kind of smacking is OK but i do think that if you smack you child that hard you leave a mark or even a bruse i think is wrong and could be classed as child abuse.

I think smacking is down to what the parents believe is wright and wrong and weather their child has done wrong to get a smack.

WHAT IS A BAD JOKE?

Do we always have to find comedians funny? I think the answer is NO because some comedians can make very offensive jokes towards people. They can make jokes towards peoples race, religion and some times their disabilities.

Should these sort of comedians be aloud to make these sort of jokes?
These questions i suppose can have two sides of a story it depends on what sort of things we find offensive and what sort of jokes we like and don't like.

There are some comedians who are very funny and comical and don't make offensive jokes such as Peter Kay, however there are comedians who make offensive jokes towards peoples religion, race and some times disabilities and these are people like Roy Chubby Brown.

TERRORISM?

Terrorism is a big problem in todays world. What should we do about it?
Should we leave it down to the people who know what to do? But these so called people who are experts in dealing with these problems have only seemed to make thin gs worse! Is ENGLAND a lucky country because the disaster which happened in America seemed to have broke the big bond between the community in America? England thought they were saff untill 7/7 happened the we felt what America felt all those years ago. Will we ever be able to go back to the ways it use to be before we was all aware of how srong Terrorism is and how it can effect a country as big as America and shock their community?

What should we do? I think bring back the death penalty for those people who think it is good to get involved with terrorism and terrorists.

WHAT TO GET PIERCED?

There are not many parts of the human body which can get pierced these days. Everyone wants to be the one who gets the weirdest part of their body pierced to start a new trend off? Again do we consider this to be a bad thing if we are piercing parts of our body?

I think that it is down to personal opinion because it could be considered as wrong and bad because we are damaging the body that God gave us and it is the only one we get. However a piercing is not always for life unless it goes wrong them we might have to live with the scars for life.

I feel that it is down to personal opinion weather to have a piercing or not. I my self have had my nipple pierced and got bored with it after a few years so i took it out.

BUT IT IS YOUR DECISION WEATHER OR NOT YOU HAVE A PIERCING.

GROUP DAY ACTIVITY

INSTEAD OF A FIELD VISIT WE COULD ALL WORK TOGETHER AND DO ROLE PLAYS ON THE DIFFERENT TOPICS WHICH WE HAVE COVERED IN LECTURES WE COULD DESIGN AND COME UP WITH TALKS WHICH WE WOULD GIVE TO YOUNGER CHILDREN ABOUT THINGS WHICH ARE 'BAD'

TATOOS ARE THEY 'BEING BAD'

Are tattoos a wrong thing to do to our body?

Tattoos have become more popular among young people now! I think this is because of the famous people who are in our magazines, soap programmes and on out Television. I think because we see that famous people have got them and they look good we think that if we our selves have one we will look as cool as them. However there are people who have tattoos for personal reason For example we might have a tattoo to remember some one we have lost lost or someone who we respect. I think tattoos are a personal choice, because it is our body and if we feel that we would like to have a tatoo for what ever reason then it should not be considered as a bad thing. I think that the age limit which is 18 should be kept and should be stuck to in every tattoos shop, because you see children walking round with tattoos at the age of 15, i think that this should be enforced strongly because the age limit is set for many reasons.
  • They might change their mind (however this can happen at any age).
  • Infections.
  • Because of the age limit will go to back street tattoo shops where they might not be clean.
  • They have not finished growing so their body is still going through changes.
  • Because they might be going to back street clinics it might go wrong, they might make a mistake which can not be took back.

RELIGIOUS?

I can remember when i was growing up and my nan always use to force and make me go to church, and i use to wake up on a Sunday morning dreading going to Sunday mass. I was bought up as a Catholic but felt that i could worship and pray when i wanted to. However my nan had other ideas. She use to push and force me to do things which i did not want to do when it came down to my beliefs. I feel that it is not a problem 'being to religious' as long as you don't force it on other people or let it get in the way of other peoples day to day life. Now i am older i realise that some religions is not all about going to services every week, it is about offering something else, a service to the community offering something different than just going to mass. So i have decided to go to mass when i want to which is now and then, but to make more of an effort in giving something back to the community and other people.

PROSTITUTION IS IT BAD?

The sex industry is one of the oldest and most controversial industries it involves prostitution, sex shops and pornography. There are strong arguments on both sides over the industry. Some claim prostitution and pornography are permissible provided the people involved are consenting, while others say it is exploiting of people who are poor or vulnerable. There are also serious concerns about the exploitation of children in the sex industry.

BONNIE AND CLYDE

When i first looked and saw we was doing Bandits and Outlaws i was a bit confused. I did not really understand if it was going to be about Good Bad Guys or if it was about the fruit machines you have in pubs. I did not really understand what Bonnie and Clyde had to do with it so this entry i am researching into Bonnie and Clyde.

  • Bonnie Parker was born 01/10/1910 and Clyde Barrow was born on 24/3/1909 they both died on 23/5/1934.

  • These two captivated the attention of the American press.

  • They were notorious for their bank heists.

  • On 1934 they took revenge on the Texas department of corrections, this was a burning passion in their lives.

  • They were exploiting the 'state line' they were masters of the pre-FBI which was consistent in their movement allowing to see their family.

BANDITS AND OUTLAWS!

Today we talked about bandits and outlaws. The first question we was asked was "when are the bad guys the good guys"?

As soon as i saw this question i thought of the story Robin Hood, where Robin Hood stole money from the rich Sheriff of Nottingham and gave to the poor.

So in this case was Robin Hood a Baddie or a Goodies? In today's society people don't seem to be good bad guys. You're either or. This is because of the pre modern social revolt, but there are still outlaws with a social conscience. For example Jesse James.

DRUGS "BEING BAD"

Working in a school i see the kids becoming more aware and exposed to drugs. Drugs are becoming more of a good thing to be doing or say that you are doing!
The kids at school think it is good if you have experienced drugs at a young age they think that it makes you look "hard" and that you will become popular.
What they don't realise is that once they get out of school they wont be as "hard" or "popular" in the big wide world that they was in school.

I feel that something should be done to make kids more aware of the risks with getting involved with drugs, and what there life will be like if took that route in life.

CHEATING!! ;-)

I feel that cheating is wrong. Cheating on a partner is something which i have never done or been tempted to do. However i feel that i have betrayed a friend, because i knew that her boyfriend has cheated on her a few times. However i did not tell her because my boyfriend told me in confidence, so what was i to do? Betray my boyfriends confidence and trust in me and not tell her or break the trust and tell my friend, who i only really know through my boyfriend and his Friends. Well i didn't tell her but i think it was for the best, because they are still together getting on well and he has stopped cheating.
I think cheating today has become so much easier to do because of all the technology. People are able to get access to dating web sites where they will meet and talk to new people and some times meet. Also there are web pages which get people talking in so many ways which are around today.
The web site My Space is one of the most popular ways to meet new people. The site reportedly attracts new people at a rate of 230,000 per day all over the world. On September 8Th 2006 My Space reported 106 million accounts, which means one account is equal to one person.

Would you consider masturbation as "being bad"

Today's society masturbation is something what people do all the time, it is nothing to be embarrassed about today. There are many different philosophers who write about masturbation Thomas Szasz (cited in Sex and Sexuality:A Thematic dictionary of quotations,London Cassell 1993) and Sigmund Freud, three essays on the theory of sexuality, 1905 in on sexuality, Harmondsworth, middlesex.

Masturbation is individual sex, where as sex is normally about two people it all about compromise. However there have been times in history where masturbation has been considered a disease, this was in the early 19Th century.

I asked 10 friends for their response to the following:

Do you think masturbation is

Right 7 70%

wrong 3 30%

Would you say it is a disease?

Yes 0 0%

No 10 100%

Would you consider doing it?

Yes 9 90%

No 1 10%

FIELD VISIT

FOR THE FIELD VISIT I HAVE HEARD THAT THEIR IS A BOLLYWOOD FILM BEING SHOWN IN SHROPSHIRE ON THE TOPIC OF BETRAYAL.

ANOTHER IDEA WOULD BE GO TO A LOCAL CITY AND OBSERVE THINGS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE "BEING BAD"

MASTURBATION

MASTURBATION: is the noun for masturbate, masturbate is defined in the dictionary as "if someone masturbates they stroke or rub their own genitals in order to get sexual pleasure."

As i noticed growing up that the idea of masturbating was embarrassing to admit to doing, and people were teased about the idea that they was "stroking the lizard".

I think that this is done in school's because the kids don't understand fully about masturbation. as times have gone on, masturbation has become less problematic. In the early 18th century masturbation was considered a practice of self abuse. Now in the mid 20th century people are just "Jerking his Gherkin" and are more aware and open about the idea of masturbation.

Masturbation is a big thing now in people's sex lives. there are things around now which help encourage masturbation EG Ann Summer's and the Internet.

Smoking Ban Is It Right or Wrong?

With the new smoking law, which will be coming into action in the summer it has had a variety of mixed reaction. i decided to ask my friends and family what they thought of this new smoking ban. the reaction i got from my friends was mixed because the majority do not smoke and the rest do, the ones who do not smoke say that people smoking around them is not a problem because they have the option to sit in a non smokibng area. They feel it is just a way of socializing. however the reaction o got from the smokers was that they was being victimised because they have a habbit.

I asked 20 people i knew
Do you......?
Smoke 10 50%
non-smoker 6 30%
use to 4 20%

Do you approve of the ban?
Agree 3 15%
Disagree 17 85%

Will the ban work?
yes 8 40%
No 12 60%

With smoking becoming more popular among teenagers while i was growing up, it became the thing everyone was doing. You would watch as the popular kids went to the furthest part of the school field and you would see a cloud of smoke hanging over their heads. with them convincing themselves as being cool and grownup and thinking they had "set the standard" when really all they were doing was following a pettern.
